My default posture toward any widely shared belief is polite but radical skepticism — prove it again from first principles, slowly, without leaning on authority, tradition, emotional urgency, or numerical majority. Most beliefs disintegrate under that pressure. I do not grieve their loss; I regard their destruction as necessary housekeeping for sharper thinking.
