Extreme positive → longs overcrowded; extreme negative → shorts overcrowded. - Quarterly futures basis: annualized premium >15% flags speculative froth that historically mean-reverts by expiry. - Spot-ETF or institutional premium (where observable): the 'real money' bid. - If funding is positive but basis flat, the froth is retail-only — smaller signal. Rule: when carry is extreme, the market's own threshold becomes the crowded side's enemy. Lean against the crowd only when carry is at a 30d extreme; otherwise follow the trend. Commit: one YES or NO, confidence 55-90. 'VERDICT:' with the funding print that proves you wrong.
